North Canterbury Basketball Appoint New GM

North Canterbury Basketball are excited to announce Ben Constable is joining the #NCFamily as our newly appointed General Manager.

Ben joins NCBA at a time where basketball in the region is booming, with playing numbers increasing across all sectors of the community. Ben’s primary role will be to drive and implement a new strategic plan to make sure the participants' basketball experience in North Canterbury is a memorable one, and our growth and program delivery is sustainable.

Ben brings a wealth of experience to the role, in both the basketball and business worlds.

Ben has recently signed with his home town Canterbury Rams for the upcoming NZ NBL season, which sees him come full circle having represented Canterbury at age-group levels. As a junior Ben also represented NZ in the U18 NZ Koru Tour team in 2006, and the U18 NZ National Team in 2007.

Ben decided to pursue the US college pathway coming out of Cashmere High School. While playing for the Gettysberg College NCAA basketball team, Ben was on the Academic Honor Role three years straight (2010-13) and received an Academic All-American Nomination in his final year (2013).

Upon finishing at Gettysburg, Ben’s career took him to South Africa where he played for the Kwa-Zulu Martins in the South African Basketball National League. Ben received various accolades including MVP in 2015 and 2016. Alongside playing, Ben started and managed a social enterprise business called FreshBox, a grocery subscription service, to which he is still involved as an advisor today.

Ben’s next journey was the United Kingdom in 2019. Ben was involved both in playing for and coaching the Oxford University Blues Basketball Team and embarked on his MBA at Oxford as a Jacobs Fellow. Ben is continuing to study towards his MBA while working for North Canterbury Basketball and playing for the Canterbrury Rams.

Ben has said he  "Couldn't be more excited to join NCBA - The association really believes in the role basketball has to play in growing and binding the community together. Cannot wait to be a part of it."

We are blessed to have someone of Ben’s calibre joining our community, and we look forward to Ben becoming part of the NC basketball family. Make sure to look out for Ben on the sidelines of our NC gyms, or on court with the Canterbury Rams this season!!
